Attendance
Attendance and punctuality are important
Missing school affects children’s progress, and arriving late disrupts others’ learning as well as your own. If your child is half an hour late each day this is the equivalent of missing over three weeks of school!
Please do your best to get your child to school on time each day.
Of course, sometimes you have a justifiable reason for not being in school, like when you are too poorly, or for exceptional events such as a family funeral.
Reporting absence
If your child is absent due to sickness or emergency, please inform school on the day by calling 01484 844300. You will be asked to provide the reason for the absence.
Running late?
Any child arriving after 9am will be marked as late. Children arriving after 9am must report to the school office to ensure registers and lunch numbers are updated.
Please notify us as soon as possible if you know your child will be late. We cannot guarantee a school meal for children arriving after 10am without prior notice.
Parents of late children should give any messages for teachers to the office staff, as class teachers will not be available.
Is my child too ill for school?
It can be tricky to decide if your child is well enough for school. This guidance can help wih some common questions. We follow guidelines on how to manage specific infectious diseases.
Holidays and appointments during term time
There are 175 non-school days in the year. You should only take holidays during the school holiday breaks.
Parents have a legal duty to ensure that children of compulsory school age attend on a regular and full-time basis. Permission for holidays taken in term time cannot be granted and will be deemed as unauthorised absences, which may result in a penalty fine.
Exceptional circumstances which may be considered include one-off and unavoidable events, for example a parental wedding.
Where possible, medical appointments should be made outside of school hours.
Please be sure to provide details of your exceptional circumstances. If available, you may provide supporting evidence to the school office. Leave of absence which has not been agreed will be marked down as unauthorised and may be referred to the Education Welfare Officer for consideration which could result in a Fixed Penalty Notice being issued by Kirklees Council.
